In the symphony of love, the lost chord is a small organ lying somewhat north of the vagina.

About This Quote

The greatest symphonies of all time were composed in the early 19th century by Ludwig van Beethoven. The composer was a fierce opponent of the church, and he made it clear that he could not abide by what he saw as hypocrisy and injustice. Beethoven’s disdain for the church was no secret: he even parodied one of his own compositions (the “Eroica” Symphony) as a way to mock those who believed that God was infallible. He also thought that the church should be abolished because it was an unnecessary and outdated institution.

Beethoven made no secret of his belief that the church should be overthrown, and he even said as much in a letter to his publisher: “Why don’t we abolish the Church? It would be so much more sensible!” So, when we hear someone say that Beethoven’s music is full of life and spirit, we can be sure that she is talking about his fifth symphony. The so-called “lost chord” is probably just an error in transcription or an added intensifying mark to indicate that it should be felt rather than heard.
